Congratulations Nazareth, GREAT SEASON!!!! Great Job EJ, Also saw another western ny (EDEN HS) AVCA D-3 player of the week. See below, never heard of SUNY Institute of Technology though, must be a new program.

Ryan Meller - SUNY Institute of Technology
Sophomore, Outside Hitter, 5-11 (Eden, N.Y. - Eden Central High School)

Ryan Meller, a 5-11 outside hitter for SUNY Institute of Technology has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. He earned the award for his efforts in leading the Wildcats to three victories last week, en route to landing a spot on the York Invitational All-Tournament team. Meller pounded 111 kills in six matches during the week, which included an impressive 39-kill performance, a new program record, in SUNYIT's four-set win over New York City College of Technology. He also recorded two double-doubles on the week, one coming in the City Tech match and the other in a sweep of Stevenson, where he totaled 17 kills and 11 digs. For the week, Meller averaged 5.55 kills per frame, nearly 1.50 kills above his season average, and also contributed 2.15 digs and 6.08 points per game. This marks first time a Wildcat athlete has been awarded Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week accolades. SUNYIT is coached by Rebecca Fletcher.

If you are like me, you are busy as all get out and can't catch the matches live through Carthage's website. So I was reading on there that they actually are available for free download through iTunes after. So, pretty sweet way to still catch the action if you aren't home tonight. If you go to the above link to the carthage site, they have a link there to their own iTunes download page.

Wells-Spicer Propels Golden Flyers to First-Ever NECVA Championship

April 12 - E.J. Wells-Spicer, a 5-11 setter for Nazareth College has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week. He earned the award for his stellar efforts in leading the Golden Flyers to four wins over nationally-ranked foes and a thrilling run through the Northeast Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Tournament Championship last weekend as the No. 15 seed. The rookie kicked off action by helping unranked Nazareth slay its first giant of the week, registering 54 assists, seven digs, one kill, one block and one ace in a hard-fought 3-2 victory over then-No. 5 Baruch. In his next match, a 3-1 decision over then-No. 11 Ramapo, Wells-Spicer chipped in 64 assists, five digs, three blocks, two kills and two aces. He followed with a 44-assist, four-dig, two-block, one-ace outing in the Golden Flyers' whitewashing of then-No. 7 MIT. He capped the weekend by dishing out 39 assists, to go along with three digs, one block and one kill in a blanking of then-No. 4 Philadelphia Biblical. The win allowed Nazareth to lay claim to its first-ever NECVA Tournament Championship. For the week, Wells-Spicer averaged 13.40 assists and 1.27 digs per game, while directing the Golden Flyers' attackers to a .277 team hitting percentage. This marks the seventh time a Nazareth player has been awarded Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division III National Player of the Week accolades, with Frank Leahy taking home the school's last honor March 16, 2009. The Golden Flyers are coached by Cal Wickens.
