But, seeing you have step in and opened this fantasy world of assumptions and check(s) that I do not believe ever were meant to be written, try to follow (........ or "grip") this:

5/6 months in the future at some random school board meeting where deficits last year were in the ~2-6 million are and this year are forecasted approaching 8-10 million..

Super: Gentleman, ladies, we need to finish the budget without cutting any more teaching positions. Where else can we save some money that wont impact the academics?

Board: A couple of years ago Pittsford made some cuts to they're programs to save some jobs. Amongst other cuts, boys volleyball was eliminated.

Super: To bad, how did that go over? I mean what other options did the boys have. Ive heard Mendon boy(s) were still playing.

Board: Yea, the boy(s) had options, he/they were allowed to play, and then there is a strong club present in the area, so their volleyball survived. No, sir I meant Sutherland. They cut the boys program completely.

Super: I see, the Sutherland boys still had options also, right? Between club along with the volleyball they are still playing at Sutherland, they should be fine.

Board: Well, no sir, this example probably falls under the exceptional player clause as I understand he might be playing Division I this time next year.

Super: So him/them playing for the Pittsford Sutherland team is out of the question?

Board: Well as I said they have no boys team, and this one case might fall under exceptional player rule, so probably not. The coach at Sutherland has had experiences in the past with boys playing on girls team, so lets not get involved in that and do what we can avoid that happening here.

Super: So the young man had no options except for club?

Board: No sir he did, he went to a private high school.

Super: Great then. I'm sure they could use some good players in the private schools. That addition might allow them to put a good season together finally. (small echo of giggles, soft laughter....)

Board: Sure sir, I guess. But thats only one player sir.

Super: The other players can still play club or maybe a coed league?

Board: A few weeks/months ago there was girl who was injured after being hit by a volleyball and I cant imagine what might happen with more boys playing at that format/level.

Super: Cant we just have them play back row?

Board: Sure sir that might work Good idea (shoulders drop, forehead falls into his stack of notes...)

Super: Look, we just cant keep cutting the teachers. You know what that would do to our SAT/ACT scores? We have a responsibility to give the students every opportunity to succeed. We need for them to get their scores up. You know what that does to this area if we improve our test scores.

Board: The people that run the volleyball have been known to schedule its playoff without regards to college test schedules. It was adjusted this year, but that wasnt easy as I've heard. The opinion supported by many was like:
"too bad if kids will miss playoffs for the SAT. Or, too bad they will miss the SAT for playoffs"
They don't seem to know where they stand on the importance of academics and it's unclear that they're aware of the academic advantages I guess to some degree.

Super: But there are multiple chances to take these test, right? Can't they just not schedule these sport events until the afternoon?

Board: Of course, but sometimes the students find that taking these test multiple time and later in the school year (after review classes) they are able to improve scores and take advantage of every test date offered. The system is such that students can take multiple tests as often as they can, which helps us, um, I mean helps themselves and make more of an impression on colleges.

Board: Colleges take these tests (SATs, ACTs) pretty serious. Even the Suny systems, like Geneseo, Binghamton, have pretty high expectations. We would like these scholar athletes to have every opportunity to attend these tests.

Super: Ok, so we dont cut volleyball. yet, just move it up the list for now.

Super: Barack S. Crush, what are you doing over there on the laptop?

Barack S. Crush: Nothing sir, Im not blogging random assumptions what did I miss? Do you need me to write a check?

Super: What do you think of the choices we are asking to review here about our students chances to attend SAT test in this district vs other events we support like athletics?

Barack S. Crush: How much do you want the check for sir?

Super: Its not about the money. Its about students academics, test scores and budget cuts.

Barack S. Crush: I cant write the check with out a number sir...

I apologize now if this offends any of the characters portrait here in this fictional story. I have a great deal of respect for the Private High Schools, Pittsford school district, their players, parents and coaches. Add AD's and board members to that list. I pray that the young ladies arm injury heals quickly. The ideology was expressed to us by member(s) of a state funded district. (I'm not just trying to up my post numbers people.)

Not looking for any thoughts, just expressing an sensible response. I understand this was resolved but it took some help to convince people to get something so obvious and easily resolved.

Volleyball rules committee backs increase in substitutions
By Greg Johnson
NCAA.org

The NCAA Womens Volleyball Rules Committee recommended at its January meeting that substitutions increase to 15 per set beginning in the 2012 season.

Currently, teams are allowed to have 12 substitutions per set. Increasing the number of substitutions has been discussed at previous rules committee meetings, but committee members approved the proposal this year with increasing playing opportunities as the impetus.

The rules committee as a whole felt more substitutions in a match can help student-athlete well-being and keep student-athletes happy, said committee chair Fran Flory, who is also the head coach at LSU.

Flory said the committee fully vetted the idea and is comfortable moving forward.

The traditionalists of the game probably dont want this, said Flory, who was re-elected chair of the committee for the 2012-13 academic year. They want us to make it truer and make people play all positions so players become well-rounded. That certainly was a big topic of discussion. But ultimately, this committee sided with the opportunities for student-athletes.

All rules committee proposals must be approved by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel, which is scheduled to meet via conference call Feb. 21.

Technology
The committee is also recommending that transmission of statistical data to the bench area be allowed starting in the 2012 season. However, audio or video transmissions to the bench area would continue to be restricted.

Flory said it is common to see electronic devices such as laptops and iPads in the bench area.

People from all the divisions are using them, Flory said. Technology is advancing in the world, and volleyball is no exception. We dont want to close down technology in our sport.

Referee platforms
The committee also recommended that by 2012, referee platforms should be distributed evenly behind the net pole, with the ladder being evenly distributed behind the back of the platform.

Some referee platforms currently are constructed so that players attempting to play a ball near the stand could make contact with an inflexible object (the ladder, for example).

Potentially, this could be a cost issue for some schools, Flory said of the recommendation. We felt like there was enough opportunity to adapt to another system. We want to implement this immediately for player-safety reasons.

Uniforms
The committee also clarified a uniform rule that will be implemented in 2013.

The rule centers on either the libero or her teammates wearing a solid-colored jersey. The liberos shirt or jersey must be in clear contrast to the other members of the team.

Committee members added that a one-inch trim and piping along the seams of the jersey will be allowable.

But the committee reiterated it is imperative that the liberos jersey be distinguishable for identification purposes.

TEAM FLORIDA WAVE PRO TEAM INFORMATION

In 2012, the Florida Region of USA Volleyball will launch a women's pro volleyball team called the Team Florida WAVE. Scroll down to learn more about our team. We invite you to get involved and help us launch the first women's pro volleyball team in Florida history!

GENERAL INFORMATION

The TEAM FLORIDA WAVE is part of the new Premier Volleyball League (PVL), a women's pro league sanctioned by USA Volleyball. This is a grassroots based league that is unique and has unlimited potential as teams come online across the United States. Since USA Volleyball has 40 regions there could be as many as 40 professional volleyball teams in the future.

The main difference between this pro league and all others that have come and gone is that this league is being built on a "bottom up" grassroots model as opposed to a "top down" model. We will take our team to the fans and create role models for the youth and junior athletes in the Florida Region.

COACHES & STAFF INFORMATION

Nick Cheronis

Head Coach
TEAM FLORIDA WAVE HEAD COACH

Nick Cheronis has coached collegiate volleyball for 28 years. He served as the Associate Head Coach at the University of Florida for 18 of those years. During his collegiate coaching career, Nick had 7 NCAA Final Four appearances and won 18 SEC championships. He coached 25 AVCA All-Americans, coached the USAV Jr. National team, and served as a coach and Technical Director for the Team Florida Indoor HP All-Star Program. Nick is now a Master Coach with PowerCore360.

When asked about his thoughts on this new opportunity, Nick Cheronis commented: "Team Florida Wave is an exciting new opportunity for players to continue their indoor playing careers after their college careers are over. There have been several attempts in the past to provide post collegiate opportunities, but this is the first that is starting at the grass roots level. Having coached at Florida for 18 seasons, there have been countless players who loved their playing experience so much, that they weren't ready to put the knee pads away just yet.

I see this as an opportunity for players who have a true passion for the sport, and for competition. Practices will be physically and mentally challenging. Competitions will be used to finalize a roster to compete for thousands of dollars. This experience won't be for everyone. But, if you are motivated to play and compete at the highest possible level, then it could be for you."

Steve Benson

Asst. Coach
TEAM FLORIDA WAVE ASSISTANT COACH

Steve Benson has coached collegiate volleyball for 11 years. He served as the Head Coach for both the men's and women's teams at EMU in Virginia from 2005-2011. Steve is the longest serving Team Florida Indoor HP All-Star coach and has assisted USA Volleyball by leading HP tryouts and camps throughout the US. During his tenure with the Team Florida HP All-Stars, Steve led both girl's and boy's teams to a 1st, 3rd, and 4th place finish at the USAV HP Championships. Steve is now the Events Manager for the Florida Region of USA Volleyball.

This years competition is in IOWA

The Western Empire Volleyball Association is pleased to announce the formation of a region High Performance Program for the 2012 season.

The Western Empire Volleyball Association HP Program is designed to further develop the top junior volleyball players in our region by expanding the opportunities our players have to train and gain national level experience. For our athletes, the goals of the program include providing top-level skill development and training, additional exposure to collegiate coaches, and providing elite region players with the opportunity to compete in the highest level junior tournament available in the United States by representing WEVA at the High Performance Championships against the best players from other regions and other countries. We also look to provide additional and unique development opportunities for our regions elite and aspiring coaches.

WEVA looks to form one boys team in the Youth or Select age group and one girls team in the Youth or Select age group with the goal of attending the High Performance Championships at the end of July.

WEVA strongly encourages all its players and coaches to get involved in WEVA HP!!!

How are players selected?
Players are selected through a multi-tiered competitive tryout process in compliance with USA Volleyball National Team Development Standards. Athletes who wish to be part of the WEVA HP Program will attend two WEVA HP tryouts. From those two tryouts, the HP Staff will ask a certain number of athletes back for a third tryout. At the conclusion of tryout #3, the HP Staff will invite players to the WEVA HP Camp and to participate as members of the WEVA HP travel team that competes in the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships in July.

Youth: 1995 and 1996
Select: 1997 and 1998

Girls
Youth: 1996 and 1997

What is High Performance?
USA Volleyball is the National Governing Body for the sport of volleyball in the United States. It establishes and manages the USA National Men's and Women's Volleyball Teams, the USA Olympic Teams, and also USA Youth and Junior National Teams for each gender. The Youth and Junior National Teams, along with a number of tiered training programs, fall under the High Performance (HP) Department. The High Performance Program works to advance volleyball talent and build a broader and stronger pipeline of athletes and coaches for our USA Olympic Teams. HP is designed to bridge the gap between our USA National Teams and youth volleyball programs across the country. This is done through a system of national tryouts that qualify athletes for training programs, camps, and youth and junior national teams. The HP Program at USA Volleyball is the pipeline for volleyball athletes who aspire to reach the elite levels of the sport.
