NOVA (New York Outdoor Volleyball Association) will host a Jrs. Beach Doubles Tournament this Sunday June 17th at the East End of Charlotte Beach.

The tournament will start at 9am with player check-in starting at 8:30am. It will be run just like the Jrs. tournaments at Hot Shots during the winter and spring. It will be pool play format with single elimination playoffs to follow.

The cost of the event is $15 dollars per player plus a 1 time NOVA fee of $20. This event should bring out some of the best young beach players in the area and is a tournament that should not be missed!

To register simply log on to http//:www.novaeventmanagement.com/ It is quick, easy and fast to register right online.

If you have any questions about this event, please call Sal @ 461-1220.

I'll see you on the beach!!!!

Isn't allowed? Or it is not encouraged? Certainly club coaches are not telling their kids whether they can OR can't play, I am sure they are just offering their opinion and sharing their preferences.

Right?

No if i played with cali next week chances would be pretty good that i would get benched or just less playing time. Our team is really serious about winning so i'll follow the rules even though i want to be down there playing this weekend.

I am pretty sure Cal, or any other right minded coach, would not encourage any of his players to participate in a beach tourney the weekend before traveling to L.A. to play an indoor tourney.

Why didn't they have libero's when I played?

I see nothing wrong with it. Obviously, they should try to be careful while playing. I think the benefits of playing outdoor sand volleyball outweighs the risk of getting injured. Do you think the SoCal club teams are asking their players not to play on the beach on weekends during season?

I am not saying to avoid the beach entirely, just not put yourself in a position to get injured prior to a trip that you (or your parents) have payed maybe $1000 for. I also think it is somewhat selfish to play in a local beach tourney the weekend before you travel to one of the biggest tournaments of the year. A trip that you and your teammates have been preparing for the last 7 months. I absolutely think you should be playing on the beach when the club season is over. There are huge benefits to playing in the sand. I would have the same feeling about players participating in any activity with a risk of injury prior to a trip of that magnitude.

Obey? now thats a word and a half.....

I dont thik I have ever met a good volleyball player that ever could Obey anything......

I love that word.....its like you went out and married your coach......

I wasnt busting on what I thought was your decision to get ready for a big tourney what i was commenting on was that it should be your choice and not your coaches since you paid the money and you would be the one playing.....

Good luck in Cali...the beach will be there for you when you get back.....

A friend of mine works for Sealed Air Corporation...the inventors of 'Bubble Wrap.' I''ll ask him to send samples to your coaches. Maybe John Travolta still has that plastic bubble....Oh, and no showering either! Or walking, running, gym class......

The sooner indoor coaches in this area realize how much the beach game helps their players indoor game, the better off this area will be.

Its sad to think that so many indoor coaches are so afraid of their players trying something new.

Blah, blah, blah California..........blah, blah, blah indoor tournament..........blah, blah, blah............

and begin..........................

I agree. The more touches, the better the player. Period. Like I said earlier, do you really think SoCal teams have rules against playing beach ball on weekends? If you've ever walked Manhattan Beach you would see the answer.

Good luck in Cali.

I guess they're afraid that they'll step on on an old rusty nail, a hypordermic needle, or as Jared once did, an 10 speed Schwinn.

I encourage all my players HS and club to participate in the beach tournaments and email them the info as soon as it gets posted on here. I agree that playing in the sand translates to gains on the hardcourt, I've noticed differences in my ballas after playing in just one beach tourny.

J.O.D.,

You do an outstanding job of getting your kids out on the sand!!! I really appreciate everything you do to promote both indoor and beach voleyball. I wish more coaches in this area shared your views.

Thanks a lot!!
