Please refer to the OCT 4th Release of the recommendations of the Corrigan Report......recommendation to ADD Men's Vball if funding made available!

The buzz is in their Ear - Please try to attend the Match at UB - IPFW vs UC Irvine - rematch of last years NCAA Final - Friday Nov 9th - immediately following the UB vs Bowling Green Match at 6:30pm - Pack the gym

Ticket available soon at UB ticket office!!

http://www.buffalo.edu/news/8871

Gene Corrigan's report said UB needed to consider a reduction in the number of intercollegiate sports, "focusing on sports with the best opportunities for success," while at the same time considering addition of sports with "potential for success."

The committee's report said it concluded that "both adding and possibly reducing the number of intercollegiate sports must be considered in tandem." The committee report also recommends Manuel "explore the cost savings and competitive advantage or disadvantage of combining men's and women's sports where feasible." It notes that other MAC and Division I schools have done that and that UB already has done so for its men's and women's swimming teams.

Among the several sports that have been suggested for addition to UB's intercollegiate roster, only men's volleyball is singled out for consideration by the Corrigan Committee. The report notes that there are numerous "compelling reasons" for adding men's volleyball. The only apparent reason not to support the addition, it adds, is that "there would be an additional call on the funding that is available to the Division (of Athletics) to support its entire program."

UC IRVINE ; http://ucirvinesports.cstv.com/sports/m-volley/
UC Irvine defeated IPFW, 3-1 (30-24, 24-30, 30-23, 30-28) to win its first men's volleyball national title last year. It is UCI's first national championship since the men's water polo team took the crown in 1989. The Anteaters end the season 29-5 overall, the most wins in school history and the most in the country. UCI comes to us with a very talented squad including Jon Steller Cory Yoder and Anthony Spittle. They are coached by Jon Speraw.

IPFW ; http://gomastodons.cstv.com/sports/m-volley/ipfw-m-volley-body.html
The Mastedons come to us fresh off their historic trip to last years NCAA’s Finals where they lost to UCI. Coach Arnie Ball was been selected as the 2007 AVCA Division I-II Men's National Coach of the Year. The Mastodons reached their sixth national semifinal, where they defeated top seeded and then-top-ranked Pepperdine to reach the championship match.
IPFW, who finished the season 23-8, advanced to the national semifinals after winning the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Tournament, sweeping Ohio State on the Buckeyes' home floor in the finals. IPFW returns a strong squad led by Jason Yhost and All- American Standout CJ Macias.

PSU: http://gopsusports.cstv.com/sports/m-volley/psu-m-volley-body.html
The PSU Nittany Lions come to us with and outstanding and experienced squad that placed 6 players who enjoyed international experience this year. Juniors Matt Anderson (West Seneca, N.Y.) and Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomores Will Price (Laytonsville, Md.) and Max Lipsitz (Williamsville, N.Y.) were four starters for the United States Junior National Team that finished seventh at the Junior World Championship in Casablanca and Rabat, Morocco. In addition, incoming freshmen Edgardo Gonzalez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Dennis Del Valle (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) competed for Puerto Rico at the Youth World Championship in Tijuana and Mexicali, Mexico, finishing 11th.

George Mason: http://gomason.cstv.com/sports/m-volley/gema-m-volley-body.html
The Patriots coached by Fred Chao come to us as a Top EIVA contender led by some outstanding players such as Kyle Gramit, Hudson Bates and Ryan Kwiatkowski. George Mason is coming off a very successful trip up to Canada where they had impressive wins over both Trinity Western and the University of Calgary.

this is absolutely an amazing thing to have in our area! Great to see such high level volleyball at the same time to have so many local players come back to the area as well. Thanks to all the coaches and people who keep this coming to the area year after year. Continue to get college teams that have local players on them to come back to the area to show off for us locals!!!
