Overall, It was great to be back in Penn State, smaller crowds, on site play all weekend, shopping, and Penn State Womens Players all around campus made it a very enjoyable weekend for the players. It had a feeling that the administration tried to recreate the wheel with schedules and pool play format. Many coaches were frustrated with last minute court assignments and locations. |

The Penn State event staff and coordinators very cooperative and truly worked hard to make the event enjoyable for all. A couple of communication glitches with coaches and court assigments that will improve the more they run the tournament. The Penn State Player seemed to be everywhere and were very accessable to all the players. Everything we have come to expect from the Penn State venue was there for our players. I am looking forward to next year.

Who reffed the matches? Between Richmond, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, and Chicago I am wondering where the officials came from. Was the level of play decent? |

Level of play at Penn State, imho, was better than last year. Much more consistency overall - of course they did combine 17/18's and 15/16's. Bou, how was Pittsburgh? |

There were some good teams esp. at the younger age groups: 13, 14, 15. Competition was par for the ECC, but not exceptional. The Beast of the East concept was pretty good. Got a good look at some kids from different regions for recruiting. Saw Sal from Hot Shots talking up the Junior Beach events. They took out an ad in the tournament program and had table cards out. I saw a couple kids from Pittsburgh and Canada stuffing them in their bags. |

I was surprised that my players' parents seemed to like Pittsburgh better than Penn State. I imagine the players might still like Penn State for the dorms and the campus atmosphere. Parents liked the idea that all the matches were at one site and that there were other things to do - baseball games and the zoo to mention a couple of things. I would be interested in other comparisons. |

Got back from the Sports Performance Junior National Challenge in Chicago late last night. Great competition all weekend long. We were fortunate to go 5-3 on the weekend, but had to scrap for every point. Old buddy Joe Jablonski (SPRI 18-1 Elite coach) was gracious enough to give us tours of their relatively new facility (including a full weight room that would be the envy of most colleges). His team is just spectacular. (On a side note, there was plenty of pitching for JDVA over USAV among local parents there.)
Loads of college coaches in attendance, even observing 15's. Some I personally spotted: PSU (Russ is everywhere), Wisconsin, Kent State, Michigan, Western Kentucky, Mississippi, Indiana, Akron, UB, and a bunch others I can't recall right now--jet lag. Saturday, we spent a great day in downtown Chicago--great city. |

Well, Mystery played at Pittsburg in the 18 Championship divison. Overall was a little disappointed in the level of play. The Beast of the East looked to be pretty solid. Mystery was seeded #1 overall in the tourney however there was only 24 teams. I believe 16 teams dropped out last minute. When push came to shove the girls brought their A game and ended up winning East Coast. This team has far exceeded my expectations for the season and should be very proud of all that they have accomplished. We were out matched in many games this year against very good teams but somehow dug deep and found ways to win. Thank you girls for a wonderful club and highschool career. You will be rememeber for some time to come! It was an honor to have coached you all. |

The honor goes both ways I'm sure. I know/heard the parents we're very supportive and appreciative as well as the players.
These two coaches make quite a team and work well together.
What's not to like. Three tournament wins and the two "local" tournaments had Beast of East caliber teams.
