That's pretty funny.
I will add :
The Torrimar 16's setting a 1 1/2 ball at game point right at Pace's best blocker.......denied. Gold medal to Pace.....bye bye Torrimar.
RVC 18-1 crumbling under 6 straight bombs from Stefani with a 18-24 lead.
Alex McColgin's Eden 17's OH Clamp on Pittire 's RS . He reach over so far it was blocked straight down hitting the bottom of the net on the other side.
Anyway it was a great tourney for WNY Vball and especially dominating for Pace. Very impressive weekend.
1 month to get even better and prepare to bring it every point Day 1, Day 2 , Day 3 and Day 4.

I would have to say one of the greatest moments was when Stefani jump served 7 straight points to get the add point when our Pace 18s team was down 24-18 to RVC.
That was amazing..... |

The service run against RVC was unbelievable. I think (but could be wrong) that Pace sided out to make the score 19-24, and when Stefani was finished serving the score was 25-25.
Stefani also saved the day in the semis against sixpak, serving at 22-24 and pushing it to 25-24... these two matches would have been lost if it weren't for, almost exclusively, those service blasts.
The Torrimar-Pace matchup in the 16s was also very fun to watch (especially for the novelty of seeing Puerto Ricans complain for carries on their opponent!) Those guys make a very unique team - you don't usually see a team that is at a size disadvantage against nearly everyone they play beat everyone down. They make up for their lack of height by making almost no mistakes, having a great setter, having an excellent go-to hitter in Dave Evans, and just kinda being really quick on the court generally.
The 17s final was also a really good one to watch with a lot of really solid players on each side. It looked like Pace was dead but they came back from a late 2 point deficit to win game 3 15-13. I was particularly impressed with Eden's libero in this match, he saved many points that probably would have been kills against lesser liberos.
Anyways, it was a very entertaining tournament. Congrats to the players! |

Puerto Rican teams are very interesting. They tend to be dominant in the early age groups. There, especially when the net is lower and their physical maturation happens more quickly, they own. However, once the Americans continue to grow and they stop, they are forced to make up in speed what they lack in height. They generally play very good defense at all levels. I enjoy their "family" idea and philosphy of team with the coach acting as the father. They do everything together. They warm-up, celebrate, eat and do everything as a team. However, as they get older I think the coaches lose control and they become unmanageable. Their love of showmanship also hurts them at the higher levels. They love getting a huge kill and set tight to the net in order to do that. They either swing for the fences or tip, which kills them in the end. Jepson did a great job working them!!!!
