The Worsley boys were fun to watch. Not much of a challenge for them, they trotted through their competition.
Unfortunately, there were other tourneys this past weekend, something called the "Best of the Beach" tourney was played both Saturday and Sunday & Hermosa sponsored a tourney on Saturday, too. So, there were only a few local teams for them to play against.
The 18 under girls pool was odd, too. A few 20 under teams were thrown into the mix. Only looked like perhaps 3 or 4 pools. The small field might also have to do with several local high school squads leaving today for Hawaii pre-season tournaments. Seems like the thing to do here.
Girls acquitted themselves well. Hope they had fun.
The boys 18s came out 2nd in their pool (sand may have been deeper than they were used to as Ceej mentioned) and then ran into two crafty liberos in the first round. The liberos played two down, no block and when they saw a huge block, they just went for toolage. Still, a very entertaining match. The local girls were amazed by Robbie's height and they would run by him to see how much bigger he was than they.
16 Under girls was the most competitive field by far. Don't know what they do out here, but the younger gals can sure play and like to do more so than the 18 unders.
Some of these 16 girls are just amazing. Saw Jane Croson, our 16 year old, USA 19U rep, play last weekend and she wasn't the only 16 under who could bring it like she can. I sometimes just walk away amazed. |
