I find it ridiculous that club tryouts are starting already. I wonder why WEVA cannot do something about regulating tryouts until after the HS season is over. September 13? Way too early |

That is a serious serious problem. Glad I'm not on that side of the game. However, Weva should try to prevent the players from locking in to a club so early. Otherwise, its within the rules, and Volley FX at this point is smart to do it i guess. |

What would be the advantage in waiting until the high school season is over ? If you waited until the middle of October you have another major issue . I honestly don't see the disadvantage of holding tryouts now and having them over before the sectional and state playoffs . |

Yup, nobody over 5' 6" can play.
Seriously, I hope not. We need more opportunities for people to play, not less.

Their website says: This year, to further meet this goal, we are scaling back to three less teams, our fielded teams will be: 18 (2), 17 (1), 16 (2), 15 (1), 14 (2), 13 (1), & 12 (New Program). |

Why are tryouts held on the same days as other clubs. If VFX is eliminating teams, there will be less spots available to play. Seems like there should be more chances to play than one tryout for one club. |

Maybe the other area clubs will add some teams and benefit from the surplus of local demand for club play. |

Hi coaches just wanted everyone to know that tryouts for 14s, and 13s are now happening for VFX... Next tryout is Sunday 10-12 at the Armory. If you are able to let your modified and JV programs know about these tryout it would be a great boost to better volleyball in the area! Any further information please check out website at volleyfx.com or email me directly @ [email protected]
Thanks See you there!!

Then just have them in august before the season. OR have them after the season. I am in disagrement with our scheduled tryouts for the club I'm associated with. But this is how it is. I would like to see it all done after High school is done. Of course I may be misguided

"...to further meet THIS goal..." What goal is this statement referring to? |

OK, Thanks. Must be a problem with finding qualified coaches to fill all the teams. Difficult in every area, I assume.
Just an aside note, -- "we are scaling back to three less teams" -- it's three FEWER teams, not LESS teams. |

A lot less difficult in the girls clubs where coaches are paid (even if it is a small amount of money). The boys clubs in the area don't give their coaches anything. In fact, I probably end up losing money. We do it to better our programs.
I don't think I would feel completely comfortable asking my HS kids to tryout when the season is still going on. I know the net play is probably limited, but try explaining a blown out ankle or knee to the HS coach when the team is potentially making a run for section or state playoffs!!!

That is an obvious statement...why do you think the college teams don't allow their kids to play in tournaments or leagues outside of their school then??? They try to reduce the chance of injury.
Pro teams also put clauses in their contracts so they don't pull a Roethlisberger!!!
I would hate to be on the team of a kid who tried out, blew out an ankle and then we lost in playoffs because that kid was on I.R..
What is the rush anyway? Club season does not start until after HS. Every year I see the tryouts happen earlier and earlier. I don't see a bunch more top finishes at Nationals, but what I do see are more cases of burn-out, patellar tendinitis and conflicts between HS and club coaches/parents/AD's.

Yeah. Try building a team for 3, 4,5+ years and have a ankle roll at club try-outs. NOT a pleasant thought. Limit the possibilties obviously. Of course you can get hurt anytime. "That ain't no kind of answer" -Marcellus Wallace, Pulp Fiction-
Here Here Z! We need to give the kids just a tad long breather sometime during club. More can be less, and Less can be more. I have felt it as a player and coach. The perfect situation would be to have our seasons in the spring like 90% of the country. That makes for a tidy club/HS season. Gives kids and coaches time off in Aug, sept, and part of october. Then kids can train, play on sand (double) or just be kids! It's a difficult situation we all face in this competitive situation. The body however must reat a bit.

hey look we ask these kids to compete winter and spring months all during basketball, softball, baseball , lacrosse seasons and playoffs. For the girls there is a BOATLOAD of admistrative and coaching and logistical stuff that needs to be processed as well as fees /scheduling and such that needs to be i 4-5 months in advance. Fees teams and teams need to be set in order for this to happen. When you are managing 8 to 20 teams......do I need to explain?
Do you realize that I am making flight plans and hotel stuff for our Eden 17 and 18's to go to cali for the MLK Qualifier? If we wait until December that cost skyrockets.
For the boys the Qualifers start in mid Jan. and first tourney Dec 8th in Roch. Eden was invited to huge Canadia tourney today on Nov 15th. I would rather get the kids in and taken care of while vball is fresh in the minds and we can get info to the vb coaches before they disperse for winter sports.....never get them after that.
We have the Preview to the Final 4 on Nov 13,14,15 with all our Pace and Eden Top players to showcase themselves......they need to be on teams and paid up and registered with WEVA.
I can list 10 more reasons why it needs to be earlier rather than later. Its a fine line being a Club director and a HS Coach......but when I put on my Club cap I'm going to do what's best for the kids who want to go to the next level and help them get there......none of our HS program would be what they are if it weren't for Club ball.
Trust me when I say waiting until after Thanksgiving for Club Tryouts for Boys and Girls would never work and make it very very difficult to organize and get into the tourneys we need to expose our kids in. |

My point of rest for the body is to give 3 weeks off in late march to mid april. Maybe just open gym. I think I was misunderstood. Rest can be at any point. AGAIN. if we had our season in the spring this all would fit nicely! ALSO!!! I don't see myself being a club director EVER. So my opinion is just that. An opinion. I coach. I do not make administrtive decisions so I am not totally informed. Lex |
