Not mentioning names AGR Victors 2 hitters Fairports 1 setter Penfields 3 hitters RH's 2 hitters Iron. 1 Middle McQuaids 1 hitter This season I believed is loaded with setters like last years was with middles. Fairport, Gates, RH, Victor are tops with Iron, McQ and maybe Web Hitters no doubt Victor, Penfield & RH with Iron, McQ DS/Lib Just don't see a great standout maybe Fair young but no real stand out. So who will make the team. No city player should until they play a county team. Probably nobody from the west side except the Gates setter. Other wise AGR is all east side. |

thats a pretty good guess at who should make AGR this year. The 3 penfield hitters deserve to make it no matter the outcome of this years sectional finals. But how does the McQuaid or R-H middle not get 1st team, who i personally think are better at that position. |

There are 2 solid middles at McQuaid. Not many teams have good middles this season. RH has a decent one. Did not do much versus McQuaid. Guess on Wednesday we will see who has the better middles. Irondequoit plays at McQuaid. |

This may be a bit agressive, but i think zach benz from gates should be in the consideration. He is a good setter on a pretty bad gates team. He has been on varsity for 4 years, and holds their all time assist record. Personally i think he made the dismal gates passing and hitting a lot better than most other setters in section 5 could. |

What middles are going to be on the team this year? Gabe and atan? I've heard neither of them are in the middle anymore...which leaves pretty slim pickings....I know this may sound biased but hey that's what this site is for so....I think Victor's middle Darin Carter should be atleast in the consideration, especially if gabe and atan aren't in the middle anymore. Darin has gotten a lot better in a league without a very strong pool of middles. Another good question is who will be libero? All the club liberos I can think of played other positions this year for HS....best of luck to everyone in sectionals! Wish I could make it

I wonder if the coaches in charge of selecting the team will put them on as middles. If not there's not a whole lot to choose from

Syta would be number one. He's made that AGR the last 3 year, but probably shouldn't have made it last year, after paying only about half the season and struggling the second half including his serving. The Gates-Chili setter should have made it last year when GC when 16-4 and if the D&C; was correct his sectional game against RH he had almost 700 assists last year. This kid has been a great player for several years on two weak teams and one good team. Setting the GC record for assist is no easy task. They have had some great teams. I saw three GC matches last year and he out played Syta twice and Ackerle in the sectionals. This year he was their whole team. He deserves it. Ackerle and Phillips (Victor) can get it next year. But again this will be an east side thing. 1.Syta 2.Benz 3.Ackerle 4.Phillips 5. Abelein O'Dell in two years |

I did see some early votes from the D&C; sports staff on their votes for AGR. Some of their votes are:
Ayton B from Brighton Ben B from Irodequoit Alex W from Churchville Zach L from McQ Steve L from McQ Tyler R from McQ Rob P from Victor Zach B from GH Dan G from Victor Dave E from Penfield Ryan D from Penfield Austin S from RH |

i feel gabe c should be on that list somewhere... dominant hitting RS/OH and a phenominal blocker, also one of if not the best middle in section 5 playing not his dominant position... strong 12 though... |

As for Player of the Year i know many will lean toward Robbie Page but I'd pick Syta. Syta is by far one of the best all around players in Rochester. He's fantastic setting, hitting, blocking, serving and passing and he's an awesome kid. Not to mention he's got over 2000 career sets while missing half a season last year!! He has had a completely dominant career and phenomenal year, he deserves to be player of the year. |

One time Syta stopped a robbery from occurring by setting a split two at the crooks head simply astonishing |

As for Libero and DS, I'd throw Tyler Reed and Micah Harp (both McQuaid) into the pool. Both have been stellar all season. |

Reed should make being the only legit libero in section 5. Harp not so much |

I can see Rush's libero and possible Victors or Fairports. Syta has been given alot of hype the past 3 years. Yes he has been great on an average team the last 4 years. Last year he only player 1/2 the season and probably should not have made the AGR team since Fairport was at .500 last year, Ackerle and Benz both should have beaten him out. I did see GC at Fair and Benz outplayed Syta head to head. But Stya was hurt and it was and early game. Rush was 15-5 will GC was 16-4 I'm pretty sure GC beat Fair. Twice and I think RH & Fairport split. The coaches should award Page the player of the year. He could have put up hugh numbers if he didn't come out as much because Victor was blowing someone out. Look how he played against RH and Penfield. I would also put Stya behind Sutherland this year and just ahead of Glamack. |

Didn't the R-H libero split time? I don't really think he stood out that much. I would definitely consider the Fairport libero, but I honestly believe that no libero stood out this year. |

I think that people should start focusing on this year and this year alone. The voting isn't perfect but it will be over in about two weeks. Lets take a look a=back at what actually happened an who had what records....then I think it is pretty easy to pick the team. The final four teams in both divisions will get a lot of vote and a few players who played well will sneak into the picture.....why put players down....
Don't try and blow out others candles to try and make your look brighter. |
