Hello all coaches and players:
The date from Southtowns VBC tryouts will be Sunday 11/22 at Hamburg High Schoool. There will be a meeting for 18,17,16,15 age groups... at 11:00 in room 121 right next to the gymnasium.
There will be a long length tryout from 12:00-3:30 ish where there will be 4 stations to perform skills/vertical jump test/foot speed tests/upper body strength tests/etc...
There will then be some position specific drills where positions will compete against their positions, etc...
Following that will be some scrimmaging and wash drills.
One factor, despite the long tryout process, it will be a closed tryout to players and coaches only. There will be a lot of players in the gym and space will be maximized. There will be no openings for spectators to watch. Sorry about that, but that is how it has to be.
You must be registered with WEVA (club affiliation: southtowns if we are your first choice or bring in your printout from another club (Panther/Eden) if you tried out and were cut or you could not commit to that club). Go to WWW.wevavolleyball.org
As always, we are a viable option for players who want to improve with quality coaching, 2-3 playing days per week (sometimes 4) and almost as many (usually the same) tournaments as other clubs with the exception of Nationals. Nationals is always a goal, however, teams need to show that they are ready to compete at nationals to go. If you are not Nationals ready.... we recommend that you go to 2 Nationals camps for the same price and get the court time that you need to improve.... That is just my philosophy...If a team wants to go badly and I don't go.... i have no objections if an assistant coach/parent wants to take that team.
We are looking for interested coaches to help out. If you know of a coach who can pitch in...please have them email me at [email protected]. the more coaches we have, the more we can get done and the more teams we can field.
There will be more info on our tryouts as the day gets closer. I just wanted players to "save the date".
The question you might want to ask yourself if you are a players is where will I get the most playing time. If we are that answer... then come tryout. If you make our "first team" then you will be a 18-1, 17-1, 16-1,15-1 player. Sometimes that works out better than being on a "2's" team. Then again...sometimes it doesn't. That decision however... is up to you.
