This is the first bid opportunity for our local guys...who will come out on top and who will be there?!?!?! As I have been going to Cali over the past couple years with Eden, I don't know who has been showing to this tournament. I would say that Pace should take it in the 18s as my boys will be surfing in the Pacific that weekend (they actually did last year), but I don't know who else shows from that age bracket???
The Pace 16s and 17s are very strong and should do very well too.
Any comments or thoughts are appreciated....

I guess Rochester doesn't have an inferiority complex like Buffalo (there, how's that for a comeback?) |

"inferiority complex" & "Buffalo." That's redundant. (And I live here!) |

Just a couple of things:
Eden went out and played really well against some really tough competition. We did get rolled by the number one seeded team of the entire tournament (fiddling with line-ups), but then played a tight three game match with Bay to Bay (the overall number two seed) all games going to the win-by-two rule. In fact we had them at 14-12, but could not close. I think my boys realized after that match that we can play with anyone.
Having said that, why doesn't the Can-Am get moved? I know Cal was upset that L.I. was in Cali as was Eden, but if given the choice where would you go? If we don't, we see the same competition (which is not the best in the country) until East Coast. There is a whole month between Cali and Penn state and there is no need for a three day weekend to have it. Qualifiers only have to be two days.
Thoughts?????????

Having the day off after the tournament affords teams traveling from far away like Florida, Virginia and Illinois and chance to rest and recuperate. Its the only three day weekend until winter break. |

There are a handful of other qualifiers that aren't on three day weekends. I was just suggesting it because there was a buzz with regards to why some teams did not go.
The issue is that some of these tournaments overlap. Having said that, of course a team will select the tourney that is most advantageous to them. If you are a smaller club that is not as good then something local is appropriate, but if you have a strong team and travel cost is not an issue...why would you not go to Cali where the best teams are and the facility is where the USA team practices and they feed the coaches all day...

There are lots of "if's" in your statement..... IF we had a choice of california or upstate ny in January i think most would take the west coast option..... |

That is why I included the "ifs" because some parties don't understand why we don't go to the Can-Am.... |
