ORLANDO, FL – The 2010 AAU Junior Beach Volleyball Tour schedule, now in its 17th season, will include open, district and regional championship events across the country, in addition to national events and local circuits in California and Florida. Age divisions include 10 to 18 for boys and girls doubles teams.

Tour highlights include the 17th AAU Junior National Championships held in cooperation with the AVP in Hermosa Beach, CA and the 44th AAU Junior Olympic Games in Virginia Beach, VA.

Championship week starts July 10-11 with the 17th staging of the AAU Junior National Championships in Hermosa Beach, CA. This annual event is the largest youth beach volleyball championships in the country with over 200 teams competing each year. The following weekend, July 17-18, will include the AAU Best of the Beach presented by Kauai Bikini at the AVP Hermosa Open, an inaugural event for the top qualified teams in the Girls 16:U Division. This event complements the already popular 14:U Best of the Beach version played in Beverly Hills later in the summer. The Boys 18:U National Championship will also be staged on July 18 at the AVP Hermosa Open.

“We are looking forward to working with the AVP again after many years of continued success and provide the needed elite and developmental programs for youth beach volleyball athletes nationwide,” said Gino Grajeda, AAU National Beach Volleyball Chairman.

In between the first weekend of the AAU National Championships and the AVP Hermosa Open, an inaugural camp/clinic, hosted by AVP, will showcase talents for aspiring girls. This camp/clinic held July 12-15, 2010, will include instruction as well as competition opportunities for the future collegiate athletes in sand volleyball.

“The AAU Junior Beach Volleyball Nationals is a great event for our sport and provides a great venue for young players to develop their skills,” AVP CEO Jason Hodell said. “AVP is proud to support the growth of junior and grassroots beach volleyball in any way it can.”

In addition to the many events across the country, the 44th AAU Junior Olympic Games will include beach volleyball as one of the disciplines in Virginia Beach, VA from July 30-August 1. The AAU Junior Olympic Games is the largest youth multi-sports event in the country with 20 sports and 15,000 participants competing during a ten day period in the summer. The medalists from the tour’s open, district and regional events will earn berths to compete. In addition, medalists from cooperative events held in Canada and Puerto Rico as well as select CBVA events and USA High Performance Trials will qualify for the AAU Junior Olympic Games.

“The AAU Junior Olympic Games is a great example of the mission of the AAU program. Bringing multiple groups together in beach volleyball and being part of a bigger event in the sports community with so many other sports involved is exciting,” said Denny Lennon, AAU Tour Director.

Rounding out the tour is the popular AAU/VB Rags Best of the Beach in Beverly Hills, CA where the top Girls 14:U teams meet for the title in a unique format. The AAU Tour Championships in Hermosa Beach, CA held in cooperation with the AVP Manhattan Open at the end of August is an open event capping off the 2010 season.
