ESPN expands coverage from a total of 13 matches being televised in 2005 to 93 matches airing this fall on various channels, including the Longhorn and SEC Network (not to mention matches available online).
ESPNU is set to broadcast the Cyclones’ match Wednesday at Oklahoma and will be in Ames for an Oct. 28 showdown with Kansas.

“Volleyball is at a point where it’s really just starting to come into its own in terms of a televised sport,” coordinating producer Meg Aronowitz said. “It is so athletic and it’s so fast and it’s so intense and enjoyable to watch.

“And, candidly, it’s short. Most matches are about 1:45 to 2 hours.”

All those factors contributed to last year’s NCAA championship match drawing 707,000 viewers.
