Looks like John Tawa has put out his first impressions on the upcoming varsity season on in the article entitled "More High School Dish? Sure!"

"Join me on my journey to discovering the teams from across the 50 states that will make news during the 2008 high school volleyball season.

Hendrick Hudson should, once again, be one of the top teams in New York State. The two-time reigning Class A champs lose All American setter Nicole Tamburri but will have a familiar replacement, sophomore Jackie Tamburri. While not tall, HenHud has hitters in abundance, like senior OH Kami Nethersole, MB Ragin Jackson and OH Michelle Jacobson. Sareeta Nethersole, a springy sophomore, gets her chance to shine in the front row this year after playing mostly back row in 2007.

Funny thing is, even if the Sailors are unbelievable, they may not win state again. That’s because they have dropped to Class B, where defending champion John Glenn should still be tough. Jaclyn McKenna, a 6-3 middle who will play hoop for William & Mary but is a supreme volleyball talent who dominated the state tournament, returns for her senior year. The Spiders also return both setters, a talented (but currently injured) RS and some promising youngsters.

Funny thing is, even with HenHud and Glenn in Class B, neither is the favorite to win. That’s because Class C champion Eden is moving up a class. That’s right: three defending state champs all in the same classification for 2008! Eden, considered the best team in the state last year regardless of class, returns all but its setter from a team that finished 51-2-1 last fall and No. 71 in the nation. 6-1 senior OH Heather Henry, who has committed to North Carolina, and superb middles Stacey Smith and Katie Eschner, are among those back for Eden, which also won state its last time in Class B."

All three of the teams that were mentioned have earned the high praise and it's hard to argue with his expectations that they will be the top 3 teams in the state this year.

There are always swings in the Top 10 every year and this year should prove to be interesting.

You have the perennial powers who still have a significant portion of their teams intact from last year:

Eden, Hudson, Glenn, Horseheads, Canandaigua, St Mary's, Ward Melville and Pine Bush.

Then you have the teams that could be rebuilding but who may in fact just be reloading:

Wayne, Lancaster, Burnt Hills, Victor, Penfield, Baldwinsville & Fox Lane.

But the most fun this year might be the programs that have been solidly building and seem ready to make an even bigger impact:

Starpoint, Irondequoit, West Genesee, Lindenhurst.

I know I am leaving some out, I assure you it is not intentional and it really would be great for everyone to start giving their input.
