Nfvb 16-1 won the open and 15-1 won the usa to both get bids to nationals. Wow.

I think VFX took the 16s today. NFVB 16-1s had already qualified for an open bid.

12's: Octane 2-0 over NFVB 12-1
13's: NFVB 13-1 2-0 over VFX 13-1
14's: NFVB 14-1 2-0 over VFX 14-1
15's: NFVB 15-1 2-0 over VFX 15-1 (NFVB had won USA bid at NEQ so both finalists get bids)
16's: VFX 16-1 2-0 over Xtreme 16-1 (NFVB 16-1 had won an Open bid at NEQ and did not compete here)
17's: NFVB 17-1 2-0 over VFX 17-1
18's: NFVB 18-1 2-1 over VFX 18-1

I was hoping someone could answer a question about bids.

VFX 15-1 gets a bid because NFVB had already won a USA bid at NEQ but then earned a national bid at the regional tournament. Since the national bid supercedes the USA bid, the USA bid goes to VFX 15-1. Let me know if all of that is correct.

Xtreme 16-1 also comes in second in the region as Mantra earns the national bid. I am hearing that if Mantra now goes to Minneapolis and wins a USA bid there, a bid will not come back to Xtreme.

I know there must be a difference here but I can't put my finger on it.

Mizuno Northern Lights National Qualifier
USA, National & American Divisions Bid Trickle-Down Possibilities
Week 2
(As of 4-21-13, subject to update as additional teams qualify before the NLQ)
In the USA, National and American Divisions, a bid may trickle down to as low as 4th place
at the NLQ.
In this event National Division bids are only awarded in the 12’s division. There are no
National Division bids in any other division.
Bids won in Regional Qualifiers do affect the trickle down process in the USA division only.
Qualifier bids earned in the American Division always supersede American Regional Bids and
must be accepted.
If a team double Qualifies, meaning they have won the same level bid or a higher level bid
in a previous National Qualifier, their bid at the NLQ will trickle down to the next highest
finisher but not lower than 4th place.
A team may decline a bid at the time of winning it, without penalty. A team which leaves
the Qualifier and has not signed the bid acceptance sheet after winning a bid will be deemed
to be declining the bid and is not eligible to reclaim that bid at a later date/time. A team
must decide within 5 minutes of the awards presentation ceremony if they are accepting or
declining a club bid. A team which accepts a club bid at the NLQ but at a later time decides
not to use that bid is subject to sanctions as defined in the Qualifier manual.
If a team declines a bid, that bid will trickle down to the next highest finisher but not lower
than 4th place.
A team that has previously won an American Division Bid (either at an NQ or Regional), and
wins a USA or National Division Bid either in competition or through trickle down in the NLQ,
may accept or decline the USA or National Division Bid from the NLQ.
A team that wins a USA Bid either in competition or through trickle down in the
NLQ and has previously accepted a bid in the Open Division from another NQ or has
accepted a bid in the National Division from their Regional Bid Tournament may not accept
the USA Bid from the NLQ. The bid will trickle down to the next highest finisher, but no
lower than 4th.
All 1st place matches and 3rd Place matches will be played regardless of the trickle down in a
division. These matches are “medalâ€￾ matches and require a winner to award the correct
medals.
Teams which place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd are required to report to the Winner’s Circle area with
their entire team to receive their awards and sign for acceptance of any appropriate bids.

So Mantra gets the National bid from WEVA regardless.

Got it.

So if that USA bid that they have the potential to win trickles down to 4th and is not accepted, does it just vanish or does it become an at large bid?

To my best understanding, if it trickles down past 4th it becomes an at large bid.

Thanks Pittsford. That's what I was looking for. It makes perfect sense that the USA bid from NLQ would trickle down to the next best team at that tournament. It still seems very strange that the same thing wouldn't be true of the USA bid from NEQ but, more WEVA teams at Nationals certainly works for me! Good luck to everyone!

At present, WEVA is sending 9 teams to Nationals, which is one of highest numbers we've sent. It is a testament to the continued growth in our regions, if not in numbers, in talent and skill.

The NFVB 14-1's are in the conversation for an at-large bid for the Open level at 14's as well. Although the likelihood of their getting the bid is unlikely (given all the bubble teams from Cali, Texas, and the midwest), if they do get it, their National bid would trickle down to the next Weva team...and the region would be sending 10 teams, something it has never done to my knowledge.

To answer your question, WEVA used to make teams that already won a bid still play in the Regional Championships because the region would only pay for the team's entry fee if they won the WEVA bid event. This caused problems when a team was prematurely eliminated by a team that already had a bid while another team that was lucky enough to be in the opposite side of the playoff bracket so they came in 2nd instead of 3rd, gained the WEVA bid.

When Weva agreed to pay the entry fee of any WEVA team that won a bid (regardless of where), these already qualified teams were excluded from the tourney.

The Niagara 16-1's therefore did not participate.

As you know, since the National bid is considered higher than the USA bid, the NFVB 15-1s did participate and took the higher National bid.

WEVA just added another bid to Nationals. The NFVB 12's got a re-allocation bid and accepted. WEVA is sending a record-breaking 10 teams to Nationals. Good luck to all.
