Why do you think Brockport will upset Fairport? They have lost to Fairport the last three or so times they played. Do you assume they will play better because it is Finals and against Fairport or do you think Fairport will not play up to par?
I think Fairport will win. They have a lot at stake for this game and a lot to play for. They have Fans who are there for their team, and players who have worked well with each other all year.

Brockport defeated Fairport in tournament play earlier this season. Their 2 match-ups in the regular season were very close, one of them went the distance.
Brockport will have a secret weapon Tuesday night. A weapon that they did not have in any of the previous 3 meetings. A 6 foot tall, 250-pound behemoth.
As for the fans...they will be negated if not overpowered (hopefully as long as work doesnt get in the way) by the man with the curly mullet. Nobody can out-yell the curly one.
Either way this game promises to be alot of fun.
Trunk
PS: I do not have the curly mullet.

I think that Fairport is going to beat Brockport in 3 games. I think that Brockport will put up a fight, but Fairport will come out on top. I think that many people are too concerned that FAIRPORT AND BROCKPORT are playing each other in the finals again. People are saying it's a rematch and things like that. In most ways, I guess you could say it is, but Fairport and Brockport have new players on their teams that they didnt have last year. So, it may be a rematch for returning players, but not for new members. You have to look at it as a championship match between two great teams and not a second chance.

Well, I have to say that I like Trunk's enthusiasm. It's finally nice to see someone using this forum for something other than putting down a team or a player. He even brought a little humor into the post when stating his point (even though I don't quite see Brockport signing on any 250 pound players any time soon!!) Someone needed to play devil's advocate and pick Brockport to win, and I like the way it was done- with very little trash talk.
Like VB101 put it in another post, I'm sure the house will be packed on Tuesday night... I don't see either team winning in 3. I think it should be as interesting as the first time these teams met at Brockport this season- 3 out of 5 games were won by 2 points. From there, it's a toss up- but Brockport definitely needs to step it up as the clear underdog if they're going to have a shot.
Fairport has had Brockport's number most of the season both in tournaments and matches, (although it shouldn't be overlooked that the one time they lost to them this year was at Roberts) Therefore, Fairport is clearly the favorite. I only hope that both teams bring their "a" game; because if both of these teams come ready to play, it's sure to be a real thriller- that even those predicting a three game blowout are sure to enjoy.
Shorty- I agree with your statement about "not being a total rematch". But I also think that the players who have been to the final dance before will be a little more experienced and have a slight edge over the rookies. With a few hundred people watching in the highest profile game of the season, the new players are bound to be a little nervous on both sides. I don't see either team having an advantage here, because both returned starters from last years squads.
You may want to be prepared to call in sick on Wednesday, because this one has the potential to go the distance. It should be fun. Enjoy the game!!

I think I remember Trunk. Isn't he the big bearded guy with glasses? He's at all their games and very vocal... This guy is the guy who was walking in front of the fans after Brockport's win at the Roberts Wesleyan tournament yelling... "We got us some NEW girls HA HA HA We got us some NEW girls!!"
vb741...if both teams bring their "A" game, as you say, it'll be over in 3. If Fairport doesn't bring their "A" game, then you'll have your "potential to go the distance". Brockport has a good team, good defense but Fairport has been very consistent, very balanced and several weapons. Most teams have been able control part of their game, as someone noted earlier this year, but one of the other girls always steps up to score.
Hey, does anybody understand why Fairport is getting next to no media attention for their undefeated season. FOr example, why is this weekend's headline, "Brockport moves into title match". An undefeated team should be publicized to get more people to come to the tournament. How is the sport going to get the recognition so that fans come to watch, if we don't promote a drawing card such as this? The press is treating an 18-0 record like it's no big deal. If it was basketball, they'd be all over it.

I have to bring up a point no one has mentioned....but I am not siding with anyone.....
Playing a team 3 or 4 time a season does not bennefit the better team.......even if the "worse" team doesnt seem able to beat the better team......that is when "accidents" happen .....
for many different reasons......I would watch out for a team that has been downed by another team several time......especially when the next meeting is the only one which matters.....
Fairport better focus......and be prepared for a fight....whether or not one shows up....

Sad but true: The press goes to bed early. Unlike other sports, where coverage is based on the quality of the match, for volleyball it is often the early time-slot that gets covered best. For years, the match that occurs first gets the headline, or the better coverage. I've been lucky enough to be both the beneficiary of this factor, as well as, a member of the forgotten team. & additionally, to be honest, how often does volleyball rate good press? A few years ago, a reporter named "Tim" would often improve our coverage, but "Tim" moved up and along & now totes a camera at more newsworthy sports. Once in a while, Tim pops up & the coverage improves. Obviously, we need more Tims.

Another reason you womt see Fairport as the Big name in the DandC but you will see Brockport. Brockport is located right outside the city of rochester. Fairport is close but a distant suburb of the city. So if you have more readers in the city wouldnt you pick the Brockport of schools rather then the suburbs Fairport. This is a lil lesson i learned in journalisim and i also went to Victor which we didnt get alot of press in the DandC also. Perfect ex. Webster when they went undefeated alot of press (closer to the city) now Fairport undefeated lil press, my point is done, if you can follow what im saying (We do need more press in the sport of volleyball) and it has also gone down in the past 3 years.

Totally agree with you, Q. Reading al this, I was thinking the same thing. Clearly, you've witnessed a LOT of competition (in any sport). It is always hard to beat a good team 3 times, even harder a fourth. the odds (and the pressure begin to work against you). The team coming up short begins to think they have nothing to lose, and the pressure begins to mount for the team with the upper hand. Still, I'm going with Fairport in 4.

I was thinking about this and thinking about the point that this will be Brockport's forth time in a row to finals. Impressive. I was also thinking about how they won it 1 out of the 3 times they were there, losing twice to Webster. They could leave this being 1 for 4 or they could leave 50%.
I really dont know who it going to win, things like this are hard to predict. I do know who I want to win. And personally I want Fairport to win. I guess we'll find out on Tuesday...Cya at the game!

I am not the guy with glasses and a beard. I dont beleive that any of you know who I am. The secret weapon is also not the guy with glasses and a beard. It will also be difficult to regognize the secret weapon, because the 250 pounds is actually well hidden. You see, muscle weighs more than fat...nevermind.
It will be easy to recognize the curly mullet, and he is now confirmed for the game. I mean, how many curly mullets could there be?
The secret weapon is so secret, the Brockport players and coaches are not even in on it. The secret weapon that "IloveBrockport" speaks of is not the true secret weapon. It is possible that there will be 2 secret weapons, and if you count the curly mullet (who isnt really secret anymore so he doesnt count) there will be 3.
To distinguish, I'll tell you what the real secret weapon does: She/He takes every player and removes all outside distractions, allowing the player to play at their meximum level. She/He removes all doubt, and brings teams together as one. She/He takes bad situations, and makes them not so bad. She/He makes you play like a champion.
It is important to note here that Fairport is an incredible team. I didnt pick Brockport because I dont like Fairport or anything like that. And I expect Fairport to play their best game of the season, but Brockport will beat them anyway.
Are there any people here that actually think Brockport will win? How could Fairport be so much better than Brockport that this entire website beleives they will win? Thats like all 29 baseball owners thinking that the winning side in the all-star game should get home field in the world series! Oh wait, that assanine idea actually happened. Leave it to baseball.

For my debut post I think I might have to back up the good Trunk and sing some praises for Brockport. I also may just have to confirm the two secret weapons theory, even though I dont know jack about what he is speaking of
I might have to just come and witness this game, if there will be a curly mullet sighting. cant miss that for the world.
Fact of the matter is that I hold little stock in regular season games in any sport being able to decide the outcome of a Playoff/Finals game. Championships are so wrought with nerves and amazing players not stepping up to the plate that they are far less of a sure thing than regular season games. Whats a far larger aspect of finals game is Coaching. The team that is better coached, and prepared in a manner that works well on both the technical aspects of the game as well as the mental will win.
Be that as it may, I have to say that I like Brockport's coaching a whole lot more than I do Fairport's so my money's on them.
Bring on the mullet :D

It's not that they dont think Brockport will win it's that they dont want them to win. Fairport is a very respectable team. They put in almost 100% everytime they play a team, not just play half-butted cuz it might be a team they think they can beat easily. They give the other team enough respect to give their all each time they step on the court. This is how I distinguish between the two teams and one of the reasons I personally why I want Fairport to win.

Everyone underestimated Brockport's ability in the quarter finals and the semi finals. They proved they can do it. I have faith in their ability! Good Luck to both teams! It'll be a good match.

If what Queen says about Fairport is true (in terms of respect), then I like their chances AND their attitude as a team. That qualilty of playing hard and seriously regardless of the competition is a very important quality and one that a lot of front-running teams lack. It also speaks of good coaching despite what skifletch suggested.
I will agree with Skifletch about the unique pressure (and sometimes outcomes-both in individual and team performance) that a "finals" produces. The team who has found ways to experience this kind of pressure in the regular season (and hopefully found a way tofight through it) will have a huge advantage. Tournaments against top competition; playing with a do-or-die attitude in tournament playoffs and finals against other hungry and quality teams. That's sectional tournament preparation that you can't get in the regular season. But then again, tournaments are meaningless anyway.

Ah ha! An intelligent post from SkiFletch. Thats one of the only ones on this forum. Well done. Even I forgot about the coaching advantage Brockport has, and your perception that regular season results have no bearing in a championship game, brilliant.
This is true. I remember when Ottawa faced Toronto in the NHL playoffs one year (either last year or the year before). Ottawa had beaten Toronto all 5 times in the regular season and the Leafs swept them in 4 right onto the golf course.
Not that it matters, but many people also seem to forget that Brockport defeated Fairport once this season. So, statechump, if Brockport defeated Fairport, how could Fairport be undefeated? They are undefeated with an asterisk!
I know OH13 knows what I'm talking about. Since my second post where I mentioned the Fairport defeat in tournament play, OH13 has been non-existent. Does anyone else find it strange that someone with as many posts as OH13 has not said a word since his post that attempted to rip my volleyball knowledge way back when? Perhaps the doubts are now creeping into OH13's head. The prediction of Fairport in 3 now looks foolish since the teams are so close. Nobody is going to win in 3.
Make a pick Queen of spades. I know you want to. Go out on a limb. Whats the worst that can happen? Its fun. Dont tell me who your rooting for, I dont care. Tell me who you think will win and why. Only a bi-sexual man sits on the fence as long as you have! Pick a side!

*sigh*, trunk... so young, so naive.
however, i do agree that just because fairport beat brockport all season, it doesn't mean it will happen again. but i will say that the match i saw, the score was closer than the game really was, so i'd leave my money on fairport.
See you in April |

wow, gone for a day and I missed so much!
Trunk, could it be Lisa Jackson?? And I know the Curly Mullet. Brockport plays way better when they have her on their bench. It's obvious. But still, watching the way Brockport played Irondequoit, I was not at all impressed. They were better in the beginning of the season still. If they can tap into the skills they had in the beginning it could be a very nice match.
OH13, Statechamp, and Queens are all awesome people. So what, Brockport beat Fairport in a TOURNAMENT. Something that does not affect the season at all. Congratulations, but you have to beat them now in order to prove yourselves. Queens also stated "And personally I want Fairport to win" So I guess she made her pick. Read the posts before you start attacking the people who wrote them.
As for the match, I think it will be the best match of the season. I personally can't wait to see this match. It will be the most action packed and closest to the guys level that has happened all year, if Brockport steps up to the challenge. The last team left to send fairport home defeated. Can They Do It? I don't think so. I think Fairport CAN take it in three...but I doubt they will. We'll see!
