"You are an idiot.....this discussion is dead.....Hey pancakes....tell them to pull the car around......we have to go....this guy is a complete idiot....."
Cool down tough guy, if you can't reply without stooping to childish name calling than maybe you should just stop posting.
The reason there aren't as many good beach teams from B-lo is because beach just isn't as popular there. They don't really have a good beach to play on. B-lo has however, always had a strong indoor tradition, therefore there's less motivation for those players to move to the beach game.

Stronger indoor tradition.....hows this for a response......Bufallo has no indoor game.......great....go place second ever ten years in JOs but how many mens teams have cracked the top twenty....ever?
have you ever gone to mens nationals......Bufallo doesnt ever strike anyone as a favorite.......
Christ....Wisconsin has far surpassed Bufallo in tradition.......
Just keep sending your one or two players a year to DI and watch them sitting the bench.....and keep it at a level two....
Scott Green....you did well this year....congrats.... Jeff Ptak ....Hes good The Guys who can actually play Mens Open Empires.....much respect.... Im not gonna go back to the old days of real scoring......
end of list....
Same can be said for Rochester indoors......
But this is about the beach.....Rochester is just better.....Syracuse second....Elmira third.....Somewhere near Turning Stone fourth... Bufallo...honorable mention....

Yea in response to 3 man...I completely agree. Your on here embarrassing yourself arguing with a 10 year old about whos better between east and west. Who cares where Buffalo falls on your list of sweet beach vball places... this post originally started talking about summer volleyball series and everyone from rochester starts to cry about how they are so much better. You have better beer leagues than we do
In response to Pringo...I don't know if you are representing them two **bad words*** or what but they are terrible. They probably would get destroyed in some Charlotte beach tournament or even a pick up game. Summer volleyball series is a fun time but the quality of the competition is terrible. They play on 7'6 nets that droop bad in the middle. So Pringo...tell your boys to keep winning against all the Eden 17 and under players and old never has beens on **"very weak"** courts. They will never get any credit till they play in any real tournaments and do decent. |

Sas75???? Making sense???? WOW! Nice to have you back. The offer still stands $400 for your "boys" if they beat me and my partner. No joke.
If you knew who was writing this, you would know that gambling is sort of a "hobby" of mine.

I hope everyone could see that my post was edited because those words being used now are hardly what I think of them two people. They are arrogant and extremely annoying as people and especially as players. Brady is nothing better than a Medaille Maverick that does well against teams that aren't any good on the beach. They would probably go to Rochester and get destroyed by anyone there...doubt they would ever go there because I don't know if they could come up with enough excuses for why they got blown out. |

Shoot... it is kind of fun to tease the kids...
Now, let's get past that. Buffalo is about an hour or so away from Charlotte depending on where you live.
I think it is great that Buxton offers an outdoor volleyball league. Whereever volleyball is given more exposure, that is cool.
In days of past yore, Rachacha had facilities @ Red Creek, Drex's and still does @ Bathtub Billies. That's cool, too.
Only Sunset offered, in Buffalo, both beach volleyball, water and unfortunately non-sterilized needles.
For some time, now, Rachacha has had a vested interested in beach doubles. It spread. NOVA worked to make this so. Tourneys have been held all over NY. Originally, the crew that played @ Charlotte were all Rochesterians, with believe it or not, a few Buffalonians who'd travel out each weekend thrown in. Once NOVA found Sylvan, Syracuse people got more involved. Sunset and Mickey Rats though, never took off to the same degree. Nor did some of the other attempts to spread the doubles game. Syracuse and Albany even attempted to create their own versions of Hot Shots. Unfortunately, they fizzled out.
The truth of the matter is that it is a great game that is enjoyable to play. It isn't as popular as it once was in Rochester, but it is still a blast. A lot of guys and gals are playing. That is one of the big changes. There are so many more women playing than in the past, and like the guys they are getting very healthy and sporting some very nice tans. Only old folks like me sport the farmer's tans these days and believe me that is in everybodies best interest.
What we Rochester beach vets wish though is that a lot more people were out playing, like in the old days. We know what a blast it is. We know how many friends can be made, as well as, what great memories can be created.
We also know how much the beach fosters improvement in the indoor game. In years past, girls/women and men hit the beach in huge numbers to reap the benefits of bigger verticals, quicker movement, advanced ball handling and reading skills that could launch an average 6 person indoor player to an advanced indoor player. The growth in ability was often enormous. & so much fun to accomplish. Many high school and collegiate teams benefitted from the growth in individual ability that came from the opportunity to play more, get stronger, get more touches and play the game more.
So rather than beating up on Buffalo's fledgling Buxton leagues, rather we should encourage all and asundry to come on down to Charlotte play a few and train with us. Some nights, a few of the nets are set up to develop skills rather than to just play.
Believe me, it pays off!!!
Voice, maybe you should be using that huge 400$ of yours to entice more of the Buffalo boys and gals into coming down. Dinner on you, @ Schaellers, Pat's, the sub shop on the hill, or the Char Pit after a night of playing, sure sounds like fun.
This sure reminds me of how the PACE boys used to be ridiculed for not coming down. & boy howdy, did teasing them work? Heck No. In the old days, from what I understand, Pace boys were discouraged from playing beach, because (I've heard various reasons) it was ill advised for them to learn shots, beach upping was illegal indoor, the hand setting was too stringently called, and too much volleyball would tire them out for their indoor championships (that often went into June). Those restrictions have been removed and life is now good. The boys are out there playing, too. All to the good.
So, Buffalo boys and gals. Come on down!!! You are welcome!!! You will find many Buffalonians there, too. Even "the voice, "dirty sanchez", and "meathelmet", hard as it is to believe for you, will be more than willing to get you some games. |

VB101......please read ALL the posts in this forum before you chime in with your two cents. You, of all people, should know that I am always excited when there is new blood at the beach.
The game needs to grow, we both know that. The more new players, the better. However, I am not going to let some punk hiding behind his keyboard talk all sorts of smack without smacking back. That's how it works! You talk, I talk louder. You think your winning.....nope, wait, you lose! Again, you should know that.
For many years now you have preached to me about respect. Respect for my opponents. Respect for the game. Respect for the older players that have accomplished more than I have. I have done my best the last few years to do just that. So, why are you defending this kid when he obviously has no respect for any of us that are out on the beach 5 days a week working our butts off to get better?
He has no respect for the game or for any of us. If he came to the beach, he wouldn't even have the good sense to listen to you.
As a friend, I sask you to stop defending the comments of the foolish. |

Hey pancakes and dirty sanchez......
I have good news for you too. E-fro and I will be in Ocean City, Md. this Saturday and Robbie J will be in Lake George. This will be a GREAT weekend for you two to play together again.
Besides I'm sure BFR is tired of writing my name on all those checks.
30-28. Nice try boys. Better luck next time! Hey pancakes, how'd you do on Sunday? Oh, wait, nevermind. My bad! |

i rest my case...........BRING IT BUFFALO!!!!!
So I read this whole thread and quite frankly I think it stinks. For over 15 years I've tried to convince people from the Buffalo area to come out to see what a great tournament series NOVA sets up at Charlotte beach. For over 15 years I've introduced Buffalo people to the volleyball players of Rochester. For over 15 years I've enjoyed competing against the best indoor and outdoor players at the beach. Well... for the same 15 years I've asked myself why the people from Rochester refer to every team traveling from the west as "The Buffalo Team." How about taking some time to learn and call them by their names, AA, A, and B players alike. How about learning the names of players from Canada? What for? You can just call them "The Canadians." So much easier for our tiny brains, more often focused on smack talk and putting people down off the court instead of beating them on it. For years you've forced us to come to Rochester for the bulk of your series schedule. When was the last time NOVA came to Buffalo? Think about why you would say "it's just too far," "the players aren't as good," "the sand stinks," yadda, yadda, yadda. Most of your answers don't make any sense if you look at all the traveling we've done. So now everyone thinks that NOVA doesn't go to Buffalo because of a needle in the sand. Nothing to do with volleyball at all! Fact is that most of you Rochester people are just to lazy to get in your car and drive past G-Dub to play some of the events in the west. A "Grand" seems to be the only thing that would work. Say nothing about a USA tournament, charity/fundraising event or an established tournament series growing for years. I'd like to think I've played some pretty good ball around town and would be a good judge of not only talent but tournament operations. I went out to Mickey Rats a few weeks ago to check out the Summer Volleyball Series so I could make my own judgement. Fact is, there were a few B players playing A, they don't call the hands tight so play is a little less crisp than other parts of the state, all the players making it to the finals might not win a Rochester tournament but some would make the playoffs. More facts... No sandbagging going on in those Buffalo events. At least B players play up in A! My biggest peeve --- Why aren't the players who win B or BB tournaments in NOVA forced to play A? Probably becasue they get treated like "B" players and not "potential A" players. The Summer Volleyball Series web site kicks the crap out of anything from Rochester, Hot Shots or Cuse. Try finding a better system to rank players and keep stats and records. How about tournaments that have been full more than 90% of the time in the past 3 years. I think there's something cool about turning players away because they didn't have their act together soon enough. But now, to accomodate more teams, they moved it to Rats (where by the way, NOVA people have had some of the best post tournament parties of all time). How about the weekly email with results and future tournament info, not a NOVA flyer/registration form on the tournament arriving at my house the Friday before a Saturday tournament (after the Thursday reduced fee deadline). And believe it or not Buffalo's tight knit players circle might be closer and more friendly than most cliques I've been around in Rochester. Since I watched some good Canadian teams play that day, how about coming over and playing some different people. Maybe teach some rookie Buffalo/Toronto players how to play the game like you all have the opportunity to do on weekdays at Charlotte. I would guess that if we had pick-up games in Buffalo no one from Rochester would consider driving to check it out like Buffalo people do.
All that being said, I wouldn't give up any friend I've met or experience I've had in Rochester, Syracuse or Buffalo. They've been some of the best. I'll continue to get players to just "PLAY" in either city or in any tournament series but please... I beg you... think about changing some attitude and make tournaments more inviting for strangers. Consider fostering and supporting some growth of other grass roots tournament series in Buffalo (Whether it's at the Buxton or Rats) that will surely produce some better players in the near future. And just stop saying that you're the best... prove it on the court, not off it.
To the mouths in Buffalo that continue to do well in "their" series... give Rochester a try. And since I don't know who's who on this site, keep the mouth shut for me until you at least make it to the semis. I'd like to keep sending players to Charlotte and Syracuse that are cool to play against, hang out with AND talk to. Don't be that guy that talks too much with no results.
To DIRTY SANCHEZ and PANCAKES... since I don't know who you are, I can't offer to sit down and talk about the post-game shotguns I've done after beating each and every one of those guys on your "best" list. You must consider me a Rochester guy. And I don't consider Bill a true "Beach Guy" yet. Let me know when the list of Buffalo players who used to win all the time at the beach needs to be released. You make it sound like everyone from Buffalo is or was horrible. That hurts. Maybe 101 can work on it since those people used to play when there were 20 nets up on ANY given weekend, you didn't have the same people in the playoffs week after week after week and WINNING a 40 team tournament was the indication of your skill level. Back then heckling was the equivalent of smack talk of today and it was pure entertainment not a player ranking system. |

Well said NUVB. Since I did not "grow up" in any volleyball circle, and since I took up the sport late and only played outdoors to begin with, I have found that the "Canadians" - Mark Roberts, Mark Heese, Frank, Blaine, Childs, etc. along with the "Buffalo" guys - Joel, Webby, Hubie, Rocco, Robbie, Marble, Rick Cole, etc. were much more inviting as friends than were the already set Rochester cliques.
Probably because I spent more time turning heckling into talking smack, Scotty and I were not well received at the beginning of our "careers". Scotty said as much in the article in the Democrat a few years back about Scotty, Brad and Marsha.
The Canadians and the Buffalo guys, however, were much more open to hanging out with, drinking with and accepting these 2 new, young, brash players than anyone in Rochester.
Because I didn't grow up a "pace" kid, or Brockport club player, or Section 5 indoor star, I was to be dismissed until ....
I started dating the real otter and went with her to the "Rochester" get-togethers. Mind you it was on her invitation, not one to me. Of course I think it may have been to see how long we might stay together (11 years and counting).
So now as an OLD player, and a middle-aged high school and club coach, I will say that almost every important relationship I have made as an adult has been with people related to volleyball. My message, to young players, to indoor players thinking about outdoors, or outdoors playing indoors, or anyone who wants some advice ---->>
Play. Play wherever and whenever you can, you'll get better, and if you actually have fnu and BE NICE you may end up being a better person because of it.
Look at me, I have not threatened to kill anyone since that Brockport reverse co-ed with Loth, Loth, Sal, Otter, me and voice where I told Voice I was going to bury him under the Tuttle South gym floor.
Heckle, stop talking s***.
PLAY, dammit, and BE NICE !!!!!!!! |

NUVB,
You put into words what I have been trying to say on this site for quite some time. When I said BUffalo's beach scene was light years behind it really is a reference to the lack of facilities, proximity to the city etc..I grew up in the Rochester scene and always thought of myself as a person who invited all to party and play. Hell, I used to get my***handed to me by most of the canadian and Buffalo players you listed. I have a high amount of respect for the volleyball of the Buffalo area. It is a different culture here, but still very solid. 4 stallions has some very ,very good indoor leauges, UB has been the most successful and consistently winning club team for years. Now you have D'Youville and Medaille which are excellent D3 teams. Rochester tourneys are skeletons comapred to 8 to 10 years ago, but the level of play is still very strong. It would be very cool for the Buffalo guys to join those tournaments and make them even bigger and better. It would be even cooler if NOVA came to buffalo every now and then and took notes from the summer series out here. That website does kick ass. I know an awful lot of people from Rochester, Buffalo, and SYracuse from playing volleyball. It would be nice to see that connection again. |

Otter....oter.........this just proves that you dont remember the past correctly......
Dav used to be the biggest trash talker on the beach....not once did you say..."scott....lets just be friends and play"
nope....you encouraged this smack and tried to do it yourself....
Obviously we are just posting crap to get a rise out of some non competative types to show a bone in their back....but instead all the bleeding heart tpes come out and try to smooth things over by saying..."your not the best" but lets just say we disagree.....
well we do disagree......i can name the number of times i have lost and it wasnt to you otter or NUVB .....by the way ...you do know me well....
Voice put it best.......i am withdrawing everything i have ever said on this site..... everything but this......I will put up the other 400 dollars and play with voice and give you 5 point and ball and choice of serve......best of three games to 21.......
Otter...better call dav.....NUVB....better call spiegel......any takers?
By the way ...there were no rochester cliques.......we were all just friends hanging out.....

That was my point. We probably didn't "get it" until later, but those who weren't in those special cliques that you think didn't exist were the ones saying let's have a beer, wanna play 4's ?, stay at my place if you come to Buffalo or Toronto or wherever. they seemed more accepting. maybe through our own faults, but true none-the-less.
And what I am posting now is only that I have mellowed with age, through coaching and through my kids/wife.
As for playing you for $800 ... who cares. I am a combination of older, fatter, shorter, and less tanner than anyone who plays every day. I would prefer to have a cold girly drink like a Smirnoff, heckle a play, not a player and root for good play instead of big mouths. Even if I used to have one of the biggest.
And I applaud you for stating what you thought of Scotty, as a lot of people felt the same way. Please trust that he has grown up as well, and please don't be one of the guys who says all those things about his character, then runs up to him at Belmar, Cincy, Cleveland (formerly) or wherever and tell him how proud of him you are, and how you knew he could do it, and could you get me a VIP pass, and could get some of the guys to sign this ball for me, etc.
He never says a word about any of it, he obliges everyone of them, but it drives me nuts.
I hope if you never lost to me that you did not beat up on me too often. Of course I don't remember every loss, but I remember the ones that were to the really good players.
Think I'd remember losing to you ??? |

yes...beat you often..... no...never asked scotty for a thing proud of him.....yes...but for much different reasons than anyone could ever imagine.....
I loved what Scotty used to say in front and behind peoples backs.....more often in front.....I thought it helped with his mystic when he was here in Roch...people were a little scred of him.........I loved that...
Mellowing with age is one thing....but i think you have gone soft.... I might have to come down past the thruway and beat you with the strap off the bag i won with you......either way i might have to beat a mean streak back into you.....
I myself like to have at least a hold on an edge here and there....
