In Memory of Gary Adler . . .The 2004 Gates Chili Girls Volleyball Tournaments are dedicated to the memory of Gary Adler. Gary passed away suddenly on March 6, 2002. Gary was born on June 23, 1945 in Midland, Michigan. He moved to Fairport at the age of 12. At Fairport, Gary excelled in the sport of baseball and made the All County baseball team as a freshman. After graduating from Fairport he obtained his teaching degree from SUNY Brockport. He was an Elementary Physical Education Teacher in the Gates Chili School District for 32 years. Gary started his officiating career in the sports of baseball, soccer, and softball. About 15 years ago he started officiating volleyball which became his favorite to officiate. Gary touched the lives of so many people. He was a wonderful friend, terrific teacher, and a mentor to many young officials. Every year he loved to be involved with teaching at the new volleyball officials clinic. He loved to work with the “rookie” officials helping them learn the tricks to good officiating. Gary was a person that always appreciated a job well done and loved officiating individuals or teams that were playing at their best. Gary was a type of person that it was impossible not to be drawn to him. He enjoyed being busy and involved helping other people do many things. His smile and laughter were evidence of his passion for life and living it to its fullest. Gary’s passing has left a huge hole in the volleyball community
that can never be filled. He loved the sport of volleyball, and the players
and coaches loved him. He will be so missed, by so many in so many ways. |
