Cherry overcame a constant double-team to score 22 points and made all six
free throws as Nazareth beat Marcus Whitman 53-36 to win the Marcus Whitman
girls basketball tournament last night.
Cherry added 13 rebounds and six blocks for the Lasers (6-2). She was
picked the outstanding defensive player of the tournament.
Meredith Craig had 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the Lasers.
''Nazareth's shortest player is taller than our tallest player,'' said
Marcus Whitman coach Jim Tuck. ''They've got three players who have played
varsity for a number of years, while we have one starter back from last
year.
Sophomore Elisa Krossber, a 5-foot-7 center, grabbed 14 rebounds for
Marcus Whitman (4-2).
