November
25 - Batavia defeated Greece Olympia 16-14, 15-9, 16-18, 15-10 at
Batavia
The Spartans lost to a tough Batavia team in the season opener for
both teams. With just two returning starters playing in the match,
Greece was very inconsistent. They lost a 7-2 lead in the first
game when their sideout game left them. Poor passing allowed the
Blue Devils to rally for a 16-14 win in the first game. Batavia
used the momentum of the first game to sprint to a quick game 2
victory. Sarah Doud closed out game 3 after the Spartans failed
to capitalize on 4 game point opportunities. Stacey Britt's 10 kills
led the Spartans in the 3rd game. Greece started strong in the 4th
game, but were overcome by inexperienced mistakes. The mistakes
allowed Batavia to rally from a 10 to 6 deficit. They scored 9 consecutive
points to close out the match. Stacey led Greece with 18 kills and
Megan Piccarreto added 4 blocks and 22 assists.

December
2 - Olympia defeated East Rochester 15-9, 15-11, 15-8 at Olympia
Olympia won it first match of the year by defeating East Rochester.
The Spartans continued to struggle with their sideout game. They
allowed the Bombers runs of 4 points or more on 5 different occasions.
In the end, Olympia wore down an overmatched East Rochester team
behind Stacey Britt's 9 kills and 7 aces. Heather Jackson chipped
in 7 aces.

December
4 - Olympia defeated Greece Odyssey 15-0, 15-5, 15-1 at Olympia
Olympia cruised past Odyssey by scoring outscoring them 23 to 1
to open the match. Sarah Pastecki led the Spartans with 6 aces.
Sarah served all 15 points of the first game. In her first Varsity
action, Jennie D'Anza added 5 aces.

December 6 - Olympia finished
2nd in Pool C of the Gates Tournament - lost in the quarterfinals
of the playoffs
In pool play Olympia split games with Webster and Gates Chili and
swept Greece Athena to finish 4-2 in pool play. Olympia's first
team defeated Webster, Gates and Athena. The second team was competitive
against Webster and Gates, and they defeated Athena. The Spartans
ran out of gas in the playoffs. In the playoffs, they lost a best
of three match to the eventual tournament winners, Gates Chili.
The Spartans rallied from a 7-0 deficit in the first game but were
unable to finish off the Spartans from Gates.

9 - Spencerport defeated Olympia 3-15, 3-15, 8-15 at Spencerport
Sarah Mosher had 5 kills to lead Spencerport's rout of Olympia.
Spencerport improves to 3-1 and Olympia falls to 2-2

13 - Pittsford Sutherland defeated Olympia 6-15, 13-15, 6-15 at Sutherland
Sutherland cruised to an easy victory as the Spartans continued
to struggle with serve receive. Sutherland had 11 runs of three
points or more in defeating Olympia. This included an 8 point run
in the second game as Olympia lost an 11 to 6 lead. Sarah Pastecki
led the Spartans with 4 aces. Pittsford improves to 4 - 1 as Olympia
falls to 2 - 3.

December
15 - Olympia defeated Batavia 15-5, 15-7, 15-7 at Olympia
The Spartans snapped their match losing steak with a convincing
win over Batavia. In her first start at outside hitter, Sarah Doud
provided the emotional spark for Olympia. Stacey Britt led the offense
with 14 kills, Megan Piccarreto added 8 more. Megan dished out 10
assists and Sarah Pastecki added 11 assists. Kerry Frear fronted
the defense by recording 4 stuff blocks. Stacey, Sarah Doud, and
Megan each recorded 5 digs as the Spartans avenged their season
opening loss to the Blue Devils. Olympia improves to 3-3 and Batavia
falls to 3-3.

December
16 - Olympia defeated Brighton 15-9, 15-13, 11-15, 14-16, 15-11 at
Olympia
Olympia continued their solid play with a 5 set victory over the
defending Sectional Champions from Brighton. Stacey Britt recorded
5 of her 19 kills in the deciding game. Sarah Pastecki dished out
14 assists while directing the Spartans' offense. Megan Piccarreto
and Alecia Burningham combined for 4 blocks to stifle the Baron's
offense. Megan chipped in 13 assists and 5 kills, while Alecia added
6 kills. Heather Jackson added 6 kills and Lindsey Blaze served
up 4 aces. Olympia's 4th game rally from a 10-2 deficit fell short,
but set the tone for the 5th and deciding game. The team's traded
points in the final game until Lindsey ran off a string of 6 points
including 2 aces. Megan went down with a sprained ankle with the
score 14-9, but Olympia finished off the match as Stacey hammered
down a kill from the backrow. Both teams are now 4-3.

December
17 - Olympia defeated Eastridge 15-8, 15-2, 15-4 at Eastridge
Following a tough 5 set match, the emotionally flat Spartans started
slowly against Eastridge. Olympia trailed 4-0 before going on a
45-10 run to crush Eastridge. In limited action, Stacey Britt recorded
12 kills. Her replacement, Holly Chatterton added 3 more and an
ace. Sarah Doud and Sarah Pastecki each tallied 4 aces. Stephanie
Orlando made 2 spectacular defensive plays in the 3rd game to help
Olympia finish off the three set sweep. Olympia improves to 5-3
and Eastridge falls to 3-5.

January
8 - Pittsford Sutherland defeated Olympia 15-3, 15-13, 15-3 at Olympia
Sutherland crushed the Spartans to complete a season sweep of Olympia.
The loss continued Olympia's roller coaster season. Olympia jumped
out to a 3-1 lead only to see Sutherland go on a 23-2 run that left
the Spartans trailing 9-2 in the second game. A furious rally fell
short as Pittsford captured the second game 15-13. Greece had nothing
left in the third game and was buried 15-3. Stacey Britt led the
Spartans with 6 kills. Alecia Burningham added 4 more to go along
with her 2 blocks. Olympia falls to 5-4 and Pittsford improves to
8-2.

January
10 - Churchville Chili defeated Olympia 15-9, 15-3, 15-6 at Olympia
Olympia jumped to a 9-3 lead before watching Churchville bury them
with a 42-9 run. Megan Piccarreto led Olympia with 8 kills and 5
assists. Sarah Pastecki added 8 assists, Stacey Britt collected
6 kills and 2 aces, and Alecia Burningham added 4 blocks. Olympia
falls to 5-5 and Churchville improves to 10-1.

January
13 - Olympia defeated East Rochester 15-10, 15-10, 15-6 at East Rochester
Greece defeated East Rochester in straight sets to snap their two
game losing streak. Stacey Britt again led the Spartans in kills
by terminating 9 sets. Alecia Burningham and Heather Jackson each
added 6 kills. Holly Chatterton chipped in 3 kills and had her best
serving night by going 6 for 7 with an ace. Jennie D'Anza added
2 aces as she went a perfect 7 for 7 from the service line. Megan
Piccarreto added 8 assists and a block. Olympia is 6-5, East Rochester
is 2-11.

January
15 - Olympia defeated Odyssey 9-15, 15-5, 15-5, 15-8 at Odyssey
Odyssey surprised a lethargic Olympia in the first game by mixing
scrappy defense, aggressive serving, and an unpredictable freeball
offense. Olympia then proceeded to roll behind outside hitters Stacey
Britt and Holly Chatterton who had 11 and 6 kills respectively.
Sarah Pastecki added 4 assists and 4 aces.

17 - Olympia defeated Mendon 18-16, 16-14, 15-10 at Mendon
Olympia rallied from a 9-4 1st game deficit to dispose of Mendon
in straight sets. For the first time in the season, the Spartans
displayed the will to fight under difficult circumstances. Olympia's
bench made significant contributions as Olympia's line up was continually
shuffled. Laura Kuhfuss had 3 assists, Jennie D'Anza was 4 for 4
serving and with an aggressive backrow attack, put down her first
career kill. Kerry Frear had 5 kills and 2 blocks and Nicole Hewitt
had a perfect night both passing and serving.

January
20 - Spencerport defeated Olympia 3-15, 12-15, 17-19 at Olympia
The Spartans played their second consecutive strong match, this
time with different results. Olympia dug too big of a hole to recover
from by missing seven serves in the first game. Kerry Frear led
the charge for Olympia by putting down 5 kills with only one hitting
error. She also added 3 blocks. Junior setter Sarah Pastecki continued
her strong play by dishing out 12 assists. Sarah Doud added 4 kills,
6 digs and 3 aces. Olympia falls to 8-6. With the win Spencerport
(13-1) maintained their share of first place Division II.

January
22 - Churchville defeated Olympia 12-15, 13-15, 15-7, 12-15 at Churchville
Olympia started slow against the first place Saints, falling behind
10-2 in the first game. The Spartans' rally fell short, but they
carried the momentum into the second game. In a game were the lead
was constantly changing hands, Churchville put the game away late
with some outstanding defense. Olympia dominated the 3rd game and
continued to play well in the 4th, building a 10-1 lead. The Saints
quickly changed the momentum behind some very aggressive serving
and stormed back to edge Olympia. The win kept Churchville (14-1)
tied with Spencerport for first place in the division. Playing with
a sore back, Stacey Britt led the Spartans with 15 kills and 7 digs.
Alecia Burningham kept the clamps on Churchville's outstanding middle
hitters by recording a career high 7 stuff blocks. Sarah Doud added
9 kills and 5 digs. Megan Piccarreto had another strong match with
9 kills and 12 assists. Olympia falls to 8-7.

January
24 - Olympia defeated Eastridge 15-4, 15-7, 8-15, 3-15, 15-13 at Olympia
With two starters sitting with injuries (Stacey Britt - back, Alecia
Burningham - shins) Olympia's reserves led the Spartans to victory
over Eastridge. Starting in place of Stacey, junior Holly Chatterton
recorded 8 kills. Alecia's replacement, junior Stephanie Orlando
added 4 kills and a block. Kerry Frear had another solid match adding
5 kills and 3 blocks and Laura Kuhfuss added a career high 9 assists
in leading the Spartan offense for much of the night. After a strong
start, Olympia faded in the middle of the match. Sarah Doud had
3 of her 4 kills and 3 of her 5 digs in the fifth game to fuel the
Spartans rally. Olympia improves to 9-7.

29 - Olympia defeated Mendon 15-8, 15-1, 5-15, 15-6 at Olympia
Olympia's three seniors led the Spartans to victory in their final
home match. Stacey Britt hammered down 10 kills, including her 500th
career kill. Alecia Burningham added 8 kills and 2 blocks. Megan
Piccarreto had a career best night with 12 kills, 13 assists, and
2 blocks.

31 - Olympia defeated Brighton 15-10, 15-13, 6-15, 5-15, 15-13 at
Olympia
Olympia struggled to find their intensity throughout the match as
they defeated the Barons in 5 sets. After winning the first two
games relatively easily, the Spartans relaxed just as Brighton was
picking their game up. The result was a tense rally game that saw
Brighton take an 8-7 lead at the side change. They extended their
lead to 12-10 until the Spartans dug in. Stacey Britt put down one
of her 13 kills to close the score to 11-12. Lindsey (Chicken Wing)
Blaze, ignoring a heckling crowd, ran off 3 straight points to put
the Spartans up 14-12. A missed serve allowed the Barons to close
to within one at 14-13. Alecia Burningham and Megan Piccarreto then
combined on a block, that Brighton was unable to keep in play, to
secure the win for Olympia. Megan finished 4 blocks and 12 assists.
Kerry Frear added 3 blocks and Heather Jackson put down 7 kills
for the Spartans. Olympia finishes the season with their best record
in school history at 11-7. The defending Sectional champions, Brighton,
finish at 9-9. |

February 7 - Olympia
defeated Batavia 14-16, 15-8, 15-11, 10-15, 15-13 at Olympia
For the first time in school history, the Spartans won a quarterfinal
Sectional Match. The match was a wild see-saw affair that saw the
momentum changing constantly. The Spartans rushed to a 14-4 lead
in the first game behind solid defense and a strong serve receive
game. Batavia rallied as Erica Pilato broke down Olympia's serve
receive with aggressive serving that included 4 aces in a row. Olympia
jumped to a 6-1 lead in the second game and cruised to a 15-8 victory.
Both teams turned up the intensity in the third game. The result
was a long sideout battle that saw Olympia prevail 15-11. Stacey
Britt had 5 of her match high 17 kills to lead the Spartans. Just
as the Spartans were about to close out the match, the Blue devils
came roaring back again. Trailing 8-0, Batavia turned up their defensive
intensity. Aided by a couple Olympia mistakes, Batavia went on a
15-2 run to win the fourth game and take the momentum into the pivotal
5th game. The fifth game held true to form. Olympia sprinted to
a 6-0 lead behind 3 aces from Sarah Doud (5 kills, 5 aces, 10 digs).
The Spartans then had to hold on for their playoff lives as Batavia
battled back yet again. Trailing 8-5 at the side change, Batavia
fought back to trail 14-13. After an Olympia time-out, Batavia served
in an attempt to even the match at 14-14. Batavia dug Sarah Doud's
first attempt to match the away. Batavia's setter, Becky Bromstead,
executed a perfect setter dump that appeared headed for the floor
to tie the game. Stacey Britt made a sprawling pancake save of the
ball to ignite a wild finish to the match. The play continued for
another 8 or 9 rallies with players on both teams making spectacular
saves to keep the ball in play. Batavia finally made the mistake
of overpassing the ball right to Megan Piccarreto. Megan put the
ball down in front of two diving Blue Devil players to seal the
win the Olympia. Alecia Burningham fronted the Spartan defense by
stuff blocking 5 balls to go along with her 5 kills and 4 aces.
Megan Piccarreto finished with 17 assists, 8 kills and 2 blocks.
Sarah Pastecki dished out 15 assists to go along with her 3 aces.
Olympia improves to 12-7 and advances to play Spencerport, Tuesday
2/11 at SUNY Brockport. Batavia finishes 11-8.

February 10 - Spencerport
defeated Olympia 10-15, 10-15, 8-15 at SUNY Brockport
For the third consectutive season, Olympia was eliminated from the
playoffs by the eventual champions. In their first ever semifinal
appearance, the Spartans were never able to overcome their big game
jitters. The loss was their third to Spencerport this season. Olympia
battled hard but were unable to execute well enough to defeat the
Rangers. Each game was close until 7 or 8. At that point the Rangers
were able to pull away from Olympia. Stacey Britt led the Spartans
with 11 kills, Megan Piccarreto added 11 assists. Olympia finishes
with a school best 12-8 record. Stacey Britt finished her career
the career leader in kills (542), aces (153), and digs (272). Megan
Piccarreto ended her career 4th in kills (238), second in aces (118),
second in blocks (92), and second in assists (843). Alecia Burningham,
our 3rd senior, finished third on the career block list with 60.
For the regular season; Stacey led the team in kills at 217, Megan
led the team in blocks (37) and assists (223). Sarah Pastecki led
the team with 56 aces and was second to Megan with 164 assists.
