Wasn't it Eli Whitney that invented the "Cotton Gin"?

Yeah, you're right. That's what McQuaid education gets you, but I think vbchick was talking about something else.

Yes, Eli Whitney did invent the Cotton Gin, however, I was asking Stackempies, what is wrong with Cottngin that they wont win if she doesn't improve. Fairport is great this year, they will win it no matter what.

Joking aside......You said she needs to improve......this site is for discussion.....what does she need, in your mind, to improve? A certain skill, leadership quality, court prescence(sp?)?

If she reads this board...it would be nice for her to see possibly an area where she could try to improve rather than think someone doubts she is good enough....

I went to the volleyball tournament at roberts and i got the privlege of watching this young woman (cottengim, and i do believe it is cottengiM, not cottengiN. it is annoying to me to see a name spelled wrong, as mine usually is). anyway, i enjoyed watching her play. i saw her dive off the court nearly hitting a table and a wall just trying to get a ball. i like her hustle. she also seems to have good ball control. that is a rare quality among girls these days in rochester. if she only had a better high school coach, i think she would excel. luckily i hear she is playing VolleyFx club, which will help. with a leader like her, fairport is sure to go all the way.

fairport is good, but cottengin needs to improve for them to win it all

Isn't this the same poster who felt obliged to make cuts on individual kids before and got slammed for it? Some people never learn. And, yes, this is a discussion board, but it would hardly be worth Ashley Cottengim's (or anyone else's) time to read what any poster would have to say about her play, especially someone who makes anonymous criticism. To single her out as the hindrance to Fairport's success is lame. Never mind the fact that the statement is not true.

hahaha do i have ashleys digits, quite possibly the funniest post in the history of this site. if you really want them get them from her. me and ashley have been freinds for a few years through volleyball. she managed our team this year at victor, and we played in summer league together. shes got a boyfriend anyways, and if u really want her digits, i bet theyre not that hard to get...lol...jk

I just watched the Penfield vs. Fairport match and none of the fairport players really impressed me except their setter. However, she needs to get her middles more involved and run some out of system sets. I don't see what the big deal is about fairport, Penfield, a recently sub-par team, played right with them through four games. That match could've gone either way, and without some young mistakes made by Penfield, they would've won. There honestly is no way Fairport is a lock for anything. I'd expect more improvement with experience from Penfield and other teams like them. As for Cottingin, well, her low number of kills, soft serving, lazy defense, and lucky hits were less than impressive. Maybe it was just that match, but she seemed disinterested and over-confident.

As for Barre, any player who posts or visits these discussion boards during their season is a fool. It is an old saying that you shouldn't read or believe your critics reviews. I believe I can say whatever I want on this board, and if some player cries because I don't buy that they are the hottest thing on this side of the river, I'm sorry for expressing my opinion and triggering their sensitivity.

it's ok stackempies, anyone that has taken a decent philosophy class would know that anyone can have an opinion. It is just that when someone has an opinion with no logical reasoning behind it that they are discrediting themselves. i hope you do not stop posting your opinion, i would be dissapointed if there wasn't an opposing view to what i believe, even if it is somewhat unfounded. I do not think ashley has trouble with ball control and weak serves. and i think there is no such thing as a lucky hit. but i agree that they need to run more middles, maybe not out of system, because i don't think most middles in rochester could hit the ball if it was set from off the net (i assume this is what you mean by 'out of system'), but until they get the middles invovled there will be a double block everywhere else they go. never underestimate the use of setting a middle.

I made a career out of "lucky hits" and just-out-balls that got touched by some not-in-the-right-position defensive player.

I did alright....

But what does stackempies mean...I am serious....is it an inside joke thing or something?

whoever Stackempies is, doesn't have much to say unless he/she is putting down a team or better yet singling out a player.

I think there are four strong teams this year. Fairport, Brockport, Sutherland, and Penfield. It will be a fight to the finish for all four of these teams, as long as everyone works hard.
